And I couldn’t think of leaving while you’re feeling down

What a month! I was looking back on the weekend and that past month has been crazy busy for me.

It all started on the second weekend of February when I was volunteering at the Tankard (Men’s Curling Championships) held at the club. I was a timer, making sure that the teams completed their games in their specific time and timing shots and so on. I ended up being asked to time the playoff games as well as the final. Pretty stressful stuff, but it was great to have a front-row seat for some of the best curling in the province.

The next weekend was the Tankard volunteer appreciation party and after that I met up with a guy from work. His brother-in-law was working on the ECMAs, which were in town that weekend and I ended up with a crew pass. The next day, Chris and I hit probably about half a dozen bars downtown, thanks to the crew pass and a delegate pass that Chris picked up. I only wish we were a little more focused on where we were going and what acts to see, as using that opportunity to the fullest would have been grand.

That weekend was followed up with Daniel coming to visit with his girlfriend. It was pretty good time, we really didn’t go out, despite plans to do so. Instead just sat around and hung out, drinking our faces off. It was a pretty awesome weekend though. Luke came by and Daniel’s girlfriend is pretty cool.

Naturally, this started to catch up on me. I took the trade deadline day (the following Tuesday) off to watch the coverage and I spent most of it on the couch, sick as balls. I was fighting a cold for the rest of the week.

Then that weekend, I went to Acadia to see Matt. We watched the Leafs game, but I definitely pre-gamed a bit too hard and then when dollar shots started flowing, I was down for the count. A wild weekend, if a bit messy. I don’t know how to describe it, but I kind of feel like I missed out on the university experience a bit with my decision to go to college and then jump right into work. Either way, it was good to see Matt, even if the Leafs lost and I was out of it way too early.

So last weekend was the first one where I didn’t have too much going on. I have been drudging through a crapload of work at the office (on lunch break at the moment) and I am way behind on my HF writing (two articles due and a crapload of updates). I was supposed to work with another guy to churn out two more articles but our schedules aren’t matching up too good so I don’t know if they’ll get done.

That said, I received a really nice compliment from a player’s father at one of the Mooseheads games about an article I did on him. In fact, the past four or five games I’ve gone to have been very good, both in terms of the hockey on the ice and my own development. I’m starting to talk to more people and take advantage of the opportunity more. If I only did that at the beginning of the season, I’d be way ahead of the game. Either way, I’ll save a lot of my reflection on sitting in the press box for a later time. Just wanted to strike down a few words about my past few weeks.
